What's the best way to recenter the clock spring?

Questions:

Are you referring to the air bag clock spring?

Why are you even messing with it? Did something happen and you're replacing it?

 

Well I'd count how many times it can turn total and then cut the number in half. Don't get carried away and overturn, obviously you don't want to break it. Your clockspring should have a little locking tab on it to stop it from turning, just push it in and twist.

To me, it sounded as if his colckspring was generally not centered. If this is the case, then centering the steering wheel would do nothing. I suppose he should be a little more detailed with his question.

He never specified if the clockspring was installed and needed to be re-centered in the wheel, or if he has a different clockspring that needs centered before install, are you picking up what I'm putting down?

 

i understand exactly what you are saying, however the only way that the clock spring could be not centered is if it was removed without following proper procedure, do you understand this basic piece of information??

while installed the clockspring cannot move without the steering wheel turning (unless something breaks), and if PROPERLY removed it is fixed in the centered position(there is a centering PIN in it), you seem to be the one who is not understanding what is being said. and that will be the end of us throwing the thread off topic

 

Right. But he never said it was installed, you're simply implying that it is.

 

Ok. Here let me clarify. I forgot to Lock the steering wheel in the middle before pulling the gearbox so I've no idea if my steering is centered right or not. I wanted to know if I can pull the clockspring and center it manually then reinstall it.
