Yesterday My gear shift cable broke on me (2001 Dodge Durango 5.9l) I tried to pull the lever to park and it remained on first, Had to towed home bought a new cable from the dealership installed it but it cannot shift into park or Reverse or Neutral, I check ath the trans linkage it only moves in three positions, anyone ran into this problem? Is there a solution other than taking it to a trans shop and paying a whop load of $$$$. Plz help

 

If the linkage at the transmission will not go into park. Then you may have a broken rod that allow the transmission go into park. Yes i have seen this a few times.
