Default New and need help

Okay recently wrecked my 01 Durango 4x4 with a 4.7 i have looking into getting another durango found a body dirt cheep with i beleive a bigger V8 in it. Will the motor from my 01 work in 99 and what all is involved in changing this will i have to change the wiring harnesses and such or are they interchangeable. Im pretty sure the answer to this question is on one of the million threads here somewhere but i cant seem to locate them. as i am also sure that i need to post all this in the first gen sub cat but cant seem to figure that out yet lol any and all help would be great. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to DF
I think you may a problem doing a swap from a 2001 to a 1999 durango. I will move your post to the Durango section and hear what the durango members say.

Its my understanding that the 4.7 won't bolt up to the 99s tranny. I believe you would have to swap motor, tranny, and computer. Not sure if the t case from the 99 would bolt up, yours is electronic 99 isn't. Also not sure if the harness would be plug and play or not. Someone with more expertise would have to chime in. sounds like a lot of work tho.

Honestly it would be more work than its worth to change everything out that you'd have to to change the engines over. The dash and literally all the electronics and wiring in the front of the truck would be wrong for that engine and transmission (the 4.7 uses a different trans than either the 5.2/5.9's did) the transfer cases won't interchange, and you CAN'T put the 01 tcase in the 99 as its electronic and 01 was the first year. You really should get another 01 (or 01+ ?)

in order to pull it off you would need to have the engine, transmission, mounts for both of them (likely custom) the FULL wire harness, and probably the gage cluster since i dont think the 99 dashboard electronics would interface w/ the 2001 PCM correctly, honestly its a hell of a lot more work than its work.

that said all the exterior body panels are the same and should bolt up with no problems so you could take the body panels off the 99 and put them onto the 2001

A little late but, the 99's used CCD Bus and the 01's used PCI Bus.... so you would need the motor, tranny, computer, cluster , harness and the CTM.
