Angry 4.7 Overheating Issues

We own a 2002 Durango with a 4.7.

Ever since we got it it seems to have over heating issues.

We can be driving along all well and fine then all of a sudden the gage will move up to just below the last verticle line on the gage. When it goes over that line we hear a beep then the "CHECK Gages" indicator will light up.

This seems to be occurring on a regular basis.

The rad fan will come on and sound like standing beside a 747 about to lift off.

The stealer shop pugs it in and says nothing is wrong and thinks we are nuts. Kinda pisses me pff when they do that to us.

Is this a common issue?

Any suggestions?

I hate dealer shops today wher they jusg plug in and base an issue on what the computer tells them without doing some real mechanic work.

Are there any real mecanics out there these days? I know they are not at any dealer shop here.

Anyway, any help would be appreciated.

if the problem comes and goes i would have to ask if you have any coolant in the overflow tank? if not then you need to fill the system back up and properly burp it, in all honesty it sounds to me like you have an air bubble in the system, especially being its an intermittent problem

Thanks for your response. Comes to find out that after all this time, it was the rad cap not sealing properly that was causing the problem. I had suggested that in the beginning, but hey, the mechanic that told me to leave the mechanic stuff to the mechanics had to eat some crow on this one. I asked him.... "why didnt your plug in crap find that out, eh?"

Anyway, it is fixed now, no thanks to the local Dodge stealer.
