2002 Durango shifts only from 2nd gear from a Standstill
I posted what I thought was the tranny problem with my Durango here:
https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...miter-why.html
While trying to figure out what the heck is going on, I realized that the tranny would not drop down to 1st gear every time I stopped. Instead, the truck would only go down to 2nd and try to accelerate from there.
Someone like my wife would never notice this, however, someone like myself that "gets into it" every once in a while would. It was as if the truck was dragging.
However, physically shifting the truck into 1st at a standstill and then taking off, the truck would pull as it should with a 5.9 in it (I had no idea only 17% of all 2002 Durangos came with the 5.9l engines in them from the factory).
Anyway, going through the gears "manually" proved the truck 'could' shift properly. So I decided to learn more about this problem. First, I started with the 'check engine light'. There was a code - P1756 which indicates a problem with the Governor Pressure Solenoid.
Googling this error code produced a nice Youtube video which explains the problem. Now the video involves a Jeep Grand Cherokee, however, the problem described is precisely what I've dealt with on my Durango.

Next, I dug a little more in Youtube and found a video explaining how to fix the problem by replacing the Governor Pressure Solenoid and transducer.

I was shocked
when I searched for the parts and learned how much they cost (about $140 for the Governor Pressure Solenoid and another $90 for the Transducer).
However, the guy that explains how to replace the two in the video link above provided a link to buy a kit that includes everything and more for less than $200 (pictured below).

As soon as I can, I will buy this kit, replace everything and see how she works then.

I would first replace the transmission output speed sensor on the drivers side first, it's only $30 and it fixes most issues. If that doesn't work move into the internals as master tech states. The sensor tells the transmission when to shift. Given that you are getting a CEL would surely point to it, but it's worth a try.
