Default Durango Transmission

I have a 99 durango with the 5.2L and the 42RE tranny and the motor keeps killing the trannys. Im woundering if I bolt a 44RE up to it will it stop the problem.

unless someone swapped the 42 into the truck it has a 44 already since the 5.2 shipped with a 44re behind it.

so yes if you do in fact have a 42 swapping in a 44 will help, however if you have the stock 44 there is something else afoot bc you should not be going through that many of t hem, once they get rebuilt they are usually good for a VERY long time with only scheduled maintenance

+1 on that....

Personally if i had to pull my trans and rebuild one to put back in i would go with a 46RE as they are just about the same as the 44RE just a bit more heavy duty..
