unless someone swapped the 42 into the truck it has a 44 already since the 5.2 shipped with a 44re behind it.
so yes if you do in fact have a 42 swapping in a 44 will help, however if you have the stock 44 there is something else afoot bc you should not be going through that many of t hem, once they get rebuilt they are usually good for a VERY long time with only scheduled maintenance

Personally if i had to pull my trans and rebuild one to put back in i would go with a 46RE as they are just about the same as the 44RE just a bit more heavy duty..
