99 5.9 No Start/ Intermittent Start
Hello all,
Having some issues that I need help with, have looked through a lot of the threads and cannot figure this out. Any and all advice is welcome. I have a 1999 Durango 5.9 4x4 w/ 164900miles
Story is in July had a bad PCM. Replaced that PCM with a rebuilt, reflashed model. That worked great for approx 2 months. Starting in September had an intermittent no start issue. Replaced the Cam position sensor and changed the distributor, wires and plugs. The D ran great until 2 weeks ago.
Developed a no start, "no buss" scenario. I then changed the Crank position sensor and the TPS. It worked OK but I had a check engine light for a precat O2 sensor. It also idled rough but was clearing up the more I drove. Bought a O2 sensor from the dealer and was going to replace it this weekend. But driving home tonight the Durango stalled and would not restart. I have the ABS and AIR bag light on and the 3 flash “No Buss”. It will not start.
I have checked and replaced the relays, tried a new battery, and a spare PCM with no luck. I have run out of ideas and need some help.
So in summary I have a no start with the ABS and Air Bag light and a No Buss
Have replaced:
• Battery
• Distributor, wires, and plugs
• CKM
• CPM
• TPS
• Precat O2
• I have cleaned the MAF sensor; this is my next thought for replacement.
With all the knowledge you guys have please school me and let me know what else to check. I love the truck I just hate electrical.
Thanks in advance,
Bill

Ok, Do you know if it's getting any spark at the coil or sparkplug wires,, But I am pretty sure you are going to have to take it an get the PCM box programed with your Vin's on your D,,, It's almost impossiable to get a PCM box from one truck to another to work,, I have been threw 3 differint ones even know they had the same numbers on them it still didn't work,, I don't know if anybody else had any luck that way or not but I sure didn't,,
you can just swap PCMs you need to have them reprogrammed if the VIN doesnt match the other modules the engine wont run.
also no need to bump a thread within 9 hours of the initial post, we will get to it and offer our advice when we get here, but it IS a weekend and most of us arent sitting in front of our computers waiting for other people to have problems that we can help with(we do have lives ya know) and you need to be patient, especially on weekends.
for the airbag light you may have a bad clock spring if anything else on the steering wheel is acting up that will confirm, ABS light could be a bad speed sensor, either on the rear differential or on the tailshaft of the transmission.
in order to determine if there is a sensor taking down the 5v bus you can go around and unplug all the sensors (one at a time) until the no bus code disappears, the last sensor you unplugged is the culprit (you should be able to leave them unplugged as you go around) if that doesnt bring the bus back up you have a bad PCM or gage cluster (i would also try unplugging the ABS module since the light is on something is off in the ABS system)

I had the PCM reprogrammed. It was working fine until Saturday Night.
I understand about the bump and the weekend, but there were over 200 views at that point and thought i would bring it back to the top.
Update:
I did try the unplug method without success. but when i replugged in the scanner to see if any new codes came up the No Buss signal disappeared and the D started.
So I tried to unplug the scanner and the engine dies. So that tells me there is something going on with the OBD port. Is there a way to test what is up. I think that when the reader is connected it is completing the circuit and that there must be a short in one of the wires, but i am unsure how to test.
I did have to replace the connector this summer and I rechecked the pinout that it was correct. I still get the P0132 code for the pre-cat O2 sensor even though i changed to a new one from the dealer.
I am unsure what my next steps are:
It runs fine with a OBD bluetooth plugged in but dies when unplugged:
O2 sensor code still showing up even after replacement, and PCM reset.
Any help would be appreciated and i will try to not be impatient.
Thanks again

Is the crank sensor you bought OEM or aftermarket?
Never heard of the OBDII scanner can keep your engine running when plugin vs not running when it is unplugged.

The Crank sensor was aftermarket.
But I have never heard of that either. so I am going to bite the bullet and bring it to the dodge dealer on friday and have them see what they can find. I spoke to the service manager and they are willing to let me hang out and work with the tech to diagnose. I cant work on the truck but it is OK to discuss as they are working so I am hoping i can get out of there with less than $200.
we shall see
Thanks for the replies.
