Today i did the 1st oil change in the Durango(2001 4.7). It was kind of hard bc i did it on the ground. I thought it would be enoung room and it was but would liked more to get at the drain plug. The filter was a challenge aswell as the oil cap. I got oil all over from the filter and the cap would not come off. I always put the drain plug bck on and take filter off and then ake the drain plug out. Had more oil from the Durango than others i have done. Next time may get some wood to drive on to raise it up. I started it up to let it warm up i heard a hose have a air leak and it is the 1 that goes to the top of the throttle body(1/4 size) Cut the split off and had to use some kj jelly to get it on.

 

A lift kit and larger tires help with big guys like me. I still get the "Popeye" forearms stuck now and then.

 

i have no problems getting underneath mine to do an oil change on the ground, however i now have access to a lift so no more laying out in the cold to do oil changes for me

yes the filter comes off and makes one hell of a mess on the 4.7, if it was mounted vertically it would be much better.

 

I have no issus changing the oil on my '00 with the 4.7. it helps i didn't bother putting the plastic skid guard back on after changing the eng

When I get it on I try using the right lube!...........Just say'in.....
