1998 Dodge Durango Grinding Sound on Start

sounds like the starter to me, probably internal gears shot, replace it and my bet is the noise goes away
unless you mean the truck starts and while its running on its own power (you let go of the key) it is grinding, in that case the starter is likely not retracting properly after the engine starts up, still needs to be replaced.

It's only when I go to start the engine. When it does start it runs normally.
