Default First Post! Advice for buying Durango

Hey everyone,

I'm looking into picking up a second car for the winter since I don't want to drive in the snow too much with a 2012 mustang 5.0, and I've always loved the look of the 1st Gen Durangos. I'd be using the car to drive to and from work every day in the winter, which could vary anywhere from 80 miles a day to as little as 25.

I found a very inexpensive 1999 SLT that seems to have been very well maintained, for $1800. It's the original owner and everything seems to have been taken care of. Come to think of it, I have no clue what the mileage is, so I'll have to find out. He still has the original window sticker, has used Mobil 1 synthetic since day one, it has a new exhaust, shocks, and upper and lower ball joints.

My question is how many miles can someone generally expect to get out of a well maintained 99 Durango?

Thank you!

the 5.2l and 5.9l are both known to go over 300k, i have even heard of over 400k on them w/o a rebuild.

they will start needing minor parts around 200k if well maintained, the trans is the picky part, make sur eyou change the fluid on time, and that you use the correct fluid as per your owners manual, if you do not do that you will be replacing the trans rather frequently.

Like shrp said, the 5.2 and 5.9 are pretty bulletproof. As long as it was well maintained you should be good. Be sure to only use ATF+4 in the tranny.

Sounds great thanks for the replies. Seems like it could be a safe bet for $1800. I'm hoping it'll be under 200k though
