Default Parking brake stuck? Need help.

Hey so I recently drove and noticed a bit of drag going on, when I got out I smelt burnt brakes and seen smoke coming from the rear wheels. I thought I left my parking brake on by accident but when I checked they were not on. I do use them when I park at my house because its on a hill. I am sure its only coming from the rear, I have pressed my parking brake and released it several times but for some reason it seems the rear brakes are sticking. Any advice? Thanks.

Pull them off and replace the shoes and springs to start. while you have it apart have someone work the parking brake to make sure the cables are moving like they should clean everything up put new parts on adjust and away you go!

before jumping on the replacement bandwagon, i suggest checking the adjusters, they may be too tight causing the problems, try to open them up and see if it helps (need two screwdrivers to do that, one to release the latch and one to back off the adjusters)

True but if he heated them up to the point of smoking he probably glazed the shoes or warped the drums so even if he does get them adjusted up right they wont be as effective.

Thanks all for the reply, I tore into it with a buddy, and actually it was the rear driver side caliper was sticking upon pedal depress. We took the caliper apart, greased the sliders and all is good, ill just have to replace pads/rotors probably in spring time.

the parking brake doesnt use the caliper, the parking brake uses a cable to spread the shoes in the rear,
