Default What fixed my low- no / oil pressure 4.7L

After flushing the engine, changing the PCV Valve, changing the oil
pressure sending unit, changing the oil and filter many times and
searching the web. I finally stumbled across the problem (mine others
may be diferent). Every time I put a mechanical gauge on it the
pressure was ok. The problem occurred mostly at higher RPM's.. When
it went to "check gages" I could shut off the engine then on restart
oil pressure would return to the safe level but not to where it
normally runs. Letting the Durango sit over night the oil pressure
would return to the normal pressure. I never had a mechanical gauge
available when acting like this.

It's related to oil emulsion accumulation inside the engine oil fill
housing. No where in any of my manuals does it call for pulling the
baffle in the oil fill housing and cleaning it and inside the
housing. The accumulation some times blocked the PCV port causing the
Low / no oil pressure.

JDRM : like you said this part can get all gunky , mine did not get bad enough to cause any trouble, but it did make it hard to fill the engine with oil after oil change. a while back my son was over helping me and pulled it out, i did not even know it came out, we cleaned it up and after filling the motor up with oil put it back in, now at ever oil change i take it out and wipe it off. sure makes it easier to put the oil back in.

I never knew it was removable either.

Recently the problem occurred on the way to California. It was worse then ever. Half way to my destination oil pressure went to 0 and would not come back up. Went to the local Walmart and asked for a filter and oil change (just out hope it would help). They would not do an oil change because of no oil pressure, but said if I went inside and bought a filter they would change it. I did that and they changed the filter. Pressure went to the low mark in the safe range on the gauge and stayed that way all the way to my destination. While there, in the mornings the pressure was ok but after driving awhile it would drop to middle of the gauge or lower (it has always ran at the high mark on the pressure gauge).

Anyway, I decided the have the oil and filter changed again. I watched
them at the oil change place ( I always have changed my oil but because I was on a trip decided to have them do it) and saw they pulled the baffle. It was loaded with whitish / gray accumulation which they cleaned. On the trip home ran like it had before the problem started over a year ago.

I have put a 1,000 miles since the oil change and cleaning with no problem.
