Hello all and thanks in advance for your advice: '03 Durango 5.9 magnum AWD
Has anyone been able to remove the oil pan by unbolting the motor mounts and jacking up the motor? The ex-dealer employee says 2 hours to replace rear main seal this way. Has anyone had success with this method?
Background as stated in previous post: Mechanic's shop rag left in the pan upon re-assembly from a rear main seal r&r. (for what its worth, Im not to blame). Removed the pan and found a golf ball sized chunk of dryer lint looking remnants of a red shop rag. Since then oil pressure drops, we flush the pan by draining oil and running a diesel fuel diluted oil mixture back through the pan, drain and strain the oil, each time getting a smaller and smaller amount of "lint". This procedure has been repeated at least 20 times with limited success. Runs for hours at great oil pressure. Park it. gets cold (mid 30's here) and upon restart no oil pressure. repeat flush process. restart, great oil pressure and then cold restart, no pressure. My guess is that we are not able to get all of the rag debris as there may still be rag debris stuck to the pickup screen. So.... I want to see this screen again. But the way (shop manual) we've removed the pan before took all day.
An ex-dealer employee says there is a much easier way to remove the pan: He says to simply unbolt the motor mounts and jack the engine up about 3-4 inches. anyone done this with success?
