Default Check engine light stays on

I have a 2000 Durano 4.7L. The check engine light came on. Engine is running fine. My neighbor has an OBD, so we checked for a code. The scanner showed no pending codes, and could find no codes althogether. He reset the light, but it came back on as soon as I started the engine. We tried several times, but the light will not reset.

thanks for any suggestions,

Paul

Thanks for the advice. It reads P done, and that's all. No code, just the milage and P done.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. The display reads P done, for about 5 secs then returns to the mileage, and that's it. No codes are displayed.

I had that same thing. Check light, no code. I started checking all the grounds that were easy to get to, and cleaning them off. I also reset the computer 6 or 7 times. That ended up working for me.

Thanks for the reply, I hope that it will just go away. There doesn't seem to be a problem. It's just annoying .

Default Check engine light...

Paul...make sure you have the correct gas cap installed (and that it is tight)...the problem could also be the Clockspring (reference Haynes manual for location and removal)...good luck...

Why would a bad clockspring signal a CEL? That seems like a no go. I would suggest the trick that was previously mentioned by Duralude09.
