Unhappy Car shaking

well, this is not your average shaking problem...

car shakes while going 70+ mph but there is nothing in the steering wheel, just the car... that usually means the problem is in the rear side. well I got the wheels balanced several times and it's still there. I suspected an axle bent, got it checked out, but it wasn't... my mechanic says everything is in order and working fine.

I'm out of ideas here, what can it be?

Define "shaking", that will help out.

take a shot in the dark here cause I had another whole different vehicle with this issue & it ended up being a defective rear side passenger tire.

Yeah I'm thinking tread separation in a rear tire, or a bad U-joint.

it's not tread seperation for sure, I got it checked for that.

my mechanic says there is nothing wrong with it. is it possible for him to miss the bad u-joint? hell, I don't even know what that is...

my money is still on the bent axle though, but dunno.

and it shouldn't be a defective tire since nothing changed when I rotated them.

already did that? car/seat is shaking, not the steering wheel...

oh and, I have custom wheels (18") but I'm pretty sure that's not the problem cuz a similar shake was also there with the original wheels.

I've been putting after market wheels and tires on my cars since I was old enough to earn money and one FACT I can tell you is that it's near impossible to get a perfect balance from after market wheels with anything more than a street tire. My Durango has had three sets of after market wheels and tires. All three sets technically balanced out according to their specs...but at certain speeds I would always have what felt like a rear end vibration due to balancing issues. It always changed speeds when I would have new tires or new wheels put on or had it all balanced. Heck once it was so bad I had them turn the tires on the wheels and re-balance just to get a different result.

Just have a shop pull your drive shaft and change your U-joints. Won't cost much. I'd say do it yourself...but not knowing what they look like indicates this may not be the best project for a self learner.

hmm... yeah I'll be looking into that u-joint situation more throughly.

another quick question;

can a bent axle cause break pedal banging?
