Default SpeedO on 99 D

Hey guys,, I seen some postes on here about the speedo an I am comfuse on some,, This is on my son D that I am tryin to help him fix,, We bought a tester from parts place an it's OBD 2 PocketScan Code Reader,, The codes comes up PO500 which is the speed sensor,, So I put a new one that is located on the side of the tranny an then use the tester to erase the code as I was told to do,, So the new sensor didn't help at all an speedo still don't work about 1 hour later while driven it then the check engine light came back on again an we put tester back on an it shows that the speedsensor is bad,, So when I seen the other postes about this it was talking about the sensor that is on the rearend of the D,, an then about the ABS speedsencer on the front wheel too,, So would anybody know for sure what in the heck is controling the speedo on the D's,, I have a 98 D an have replaced the sensoners on the tranny an the rearend an still can't get the speedo to work an did erase the code then check engine light comes back on again later throwing the same code for the speedsensoner,, Sure hope somebody can help us out with this one,,, Thanks

The one on the rear. Normally metal will stick to the magnet and cause fail. Top drivers side, one bolt.

sometimes they can be cleaned and reused, sometimes not, if it were me id just replace it and be done with it.

the PCM acutally uses both the speed sensor on the tranny and the speed sensor in the rear differential to determin vehicle speed

There are issues with transmission (now rebuilt with HD clutches), rear axle, and the known rear seal leaks on my D. Trans fixed, rear seal will leak after a year per my buddy mechanic...not wasting my time, rear made noises at 55000 put in Lucus... haters...none since but yearly change I pull the sensor and wipe. Mine is ABS rear only and the light comes and gos per 35" tires not to mentioned the rear brakes are factory at 145000.
