I've had two 4.7's and find them to be great.

Used to have a '00 4.7 4WD, bought new & sold with 110k with just regular service.

I currently have a '01 4.7 4WD with 145k, burns some oil but otherwise is still a solid truck. Brand new tires, shocks, brakes, has 3rd row, rear heat/ac, & tow package. I did have to change both o2 sensors and ps switch sensor after purchase, only about $100 in parts.

Paid $2500, just to give you a an idea of the current market. These trucks are dirt cheap right now.

Thanks for the heads up.

I'm in Oregon and the only ones below 3k have body damage lol. There was one 01 with 180k for sale for $3999 but I've come across a couple for $3kish with 130k miles (98-99).

As long as the silly thing lasts for a year, won't bother me cause next Feb I'll rebuild the motor and trans.

I've got 131K miles on my 2001 with the 4.7 and its nowhere near ready to need any rebuilding of anything. You could get something with some more miles and just as long as it checks out OK (look it over, check the fluids etc. etc...) you could easily go for a few years with no worries if its one thats been maintained well. Just like your Jeep, these things were made very well and intended to last and be very reliable.

Thanks for all the info everyone.

Going tomorrow to look at a 2000 with a 4.7. Has 173k on it but he only wants $3k (most similar mileage in my area is about $4k) and looks pretty good.

We just bought it. I was amazed how much smoother it rides. Has 174,000 on it but it was mainly freeway driving and her husband was the Service Manager of a dealership sp they stayed on top of everything which you can tell it looks and runs flawless.

Thanks everyone

5.2l is the most toughest engine out there. My dad had a 84Ram with a 318 in it and ran it over 600,000km before he sold it. He sold it to some guy on a farm for a work truck about 7 years ago and as far as I know it is still running today. In fact seen it 6 weeks ago with a bail of hay on it. Mine now is still running great at 420,000k. Only down fall.... You better have $100 on you when you hit the gas station.
