Default engine stalling issue

so i just got this 99 durango on a trade this is my first dodge ive always been a chevy man but my girlfriend wanted it so you know how that goes.
Anyway the durango runs fine but occationally stalls at random times ive read to replace the ecu but that was done by a shop in november of 2012 as well as plugs wires and distributor cap and fuel pump and filter. i also pulled the IAC motor out myself and cleaned it as i read that may have been the issue.
but now i am at a loss oh and im also not pulling a code from the computer.
a friend of mine hooked it up to a scan tool and noticed everything was fine except at idle the ecu is cutting fuel but it does not do it at normal driving. oh and i cleaned the IAC after we hooked it up to the scan tool? any help would be greatly appreciated.

my durango has the 5.9 magnum and is 4x4 automatic transmission

Ok I kinda got an idea of what it could be I have a few possible scenarios
I'm thinking distributor, crank sensor, or bad ecu
Wondering if I can get any help on testing these components
Thank you I'm

So I go out today to start the durango and it won't start now and I got power to the coil and it is working. So stumped even more now does anyone know if the cam sensor will create a no start situation?
And I have not gotten any replies wondering if I am posting correctly.
Any info would appreciated and let me know if any one can see my post

David23, your posts are there, sorry I'm no help with the problem. You might try a search on the forum such as "cam sensor no start" and see what shows up. May not be Durango answers but it may give leads.

crank sensor controls the spark, so if you have spark thats good, cam sensor or pick up sensor is in the distributor afaik it controls spark so when it causes a no start you will have no spark, you have spark id bet its fine.

also on these trucks NEVER walk into a shop and mention an ECM, they will screw you over royally if they know what they are talking about bc dodge calls it a PCM (it controls more than just the engine), however i would NOT expect that to be the issue they typically go bad and exhibit symptoms of running for a while and shutting the engine down when it(the PCM) gets too hot

Thanks for the input so far.
Sharp shooter before it would start it was stalling on me while driving and now just won't start does that mean its probably thePCM? And how do I test the pick up in the distributor?

camsensor and pickup sensor are two names for the same part on that engine iirc (im not expert on the 5.x series engines so i could be mistaken)

also the PCM controls spark by using the crank signal

Hi Dave, had a similiar issue with my durango, do me a favor and give the three wire connectors at the PCM a good jossling, just grab em and move em around a good bit, even disconnect em and put em back on, then hit the pcm with your hand hard and let out a stong expletive when you do...then try to start it. If it starts then the ground circuit in your pcm is bad...go to the closet junkyard and get one with matching numbersto yours and be done with the headache Hope this works for you!
