Default 02 Durango code P0344

Hi everyone, this morning i went to start the D and it backfied, tried again, started right up then noticed my engine light was on.

I turned the key on/off 3 times and it showed the code P0344. So after searching all the posts and info, found this is the Cam Shaft Sensor Intermittent. I drove it approx. 40 km. there was nothing different in the running since the light came on?

So, I went to the parts store, got a new sensor tonight after work, and get this, got back in started it up and the light didn't show anymore. Got home, another 40km and 3 on/off's and it showed 2 codes, the P0344 & P0340, but the eng light was still off.

Should I wait to see what happens? can I remove the neg cable on the battery to reset codes? or should I just replace the sensor to be on the safe side?

Thanks and you comments and expertise is greatly appreciated.

Steve

remove the battery cable to clear codes after you replace the sensor, hard starting like you described is characteristic of that sensor going bad and you dont ant to be stuck when it fails completely and it wont start (i take it you hvae a 4.7 since you didnt specify)

Thanks, yes, I have the 4.7 L. I will take your advise and change this weekend. The engine light hasn't come back on and runs without issues, but I don't want to be stranded either.

Thanks
Steve
