Did you try changing the fluid with ATF+4, new filter, band and TV cable adjustment?

The quickest and most easy swap from a junkyard would be another 44re. However, you can bolt up a 46re to the 5.2 but the 46re is a bit longer than the 44re so you would also have to swap out the front and rear drive shafts, linkage, and the PCM would need to be flashed so it knows it has a 46re and can shift properly.

Also, if you are going to swap out with a junkyard trans i would at minimum have that one rebuilt before i would stick it in the truck as you have no way of knowing how many miles for sure are on it. You could just be swapping the same or worse issues back into it. Pricing out doing a trans rebuild on my own, i have found that if i provided a trans (removed from the truck) and a rebuild kit i can have one rebuilt for under $500

$100 JY trans ~ $120 rebuild kit ~ $100 and a case of beer for labor......

I would first try the things i mentioned above as it may just be something simple and would not need a new trans.

thank you for all info on this

tried everything so far and still same results. just not wanting anymore hassle - getting trans from junkyard from a known vehicle with warranty
if it don't work i'll just have to either rebuild or get new trans

The warranty on a junk yard transmission maybe 30 to 60 days. A Mopar reman has a 3 year 100k warranty.
