Default 2000 Durango Tire Question

Hey everyone,

I have a 2000 Durango with stock rims and the tires that came with it. Thread on the tires are getting pretty low, so its time to buy new ones. I am kind of an idiot when it comes to this type of stuff, so I joined this forum just to see if someone might be able to give me the answers I'm looking for...

The current tires are 31x10.5R15 and doing some quick research, are fairly pricy and somewhat out of my price range that I can currently afford.

I see that P235/75R15XL(OR C) are also known tires for the durangos and are significantly cheaper.

My question is, can I just buy the P235's and still be good to drive around without harming my truck, or do I need to stick strictly with the 31x10.5's?

Thanks in advance!

if you change the tire size your speedometer and odometer will be incorrect so changing tire size wont hurt your truck mechanically, but it will screw up your gauge readouts

235/75/r15 was an available factory size so you'll just have to get the computer programmed for the correct tire sizes to get your speedometer and odometer to be correct, but otherwise you'll be absolutely fine.
