Hi All!
I posted this to a couple of Mods, so please forgive the repeat!
I have an 02 Durango 4x2 Sport SXT with 178K. It's a 4.7, but don't know what trans it has. (Have to look to be sure) Never had the transmission serviced. (bad I know) However, it's running strong with no shifting problems at all. With the HD fan clutch install and the high revs when it's cold, I thought early on that there may be some slippage in 1st, so I added Marvel Mystery Oil's product to the trans.
What advice do you have on getting the trans serviced at this point? Do it or don't bother with it?

being that you have the 4.7 that means you have a 45 or 545 rfe transmission, they are physically the same transmission, the difference is in the programing which controls it.
if you have having shifting problems the FIRST thing to do is to change the fluid and filterS yes plural, it will not hurt the trans regardless of mileage.

Please DO NOT allow them to talk you into doing a transmission flush.. I am talking about the high pressure one... those will kill a transmission quick... make sure they do a drain and fill only.. There is also a machine that they can hook up to your transmission lines that will collect the oil fluid and replace with fresh as the truck runs.. that process is okay just don't let them do the flush!

Went to Dodge and Oreilly's to get the parts and fluids to complete the trans purge/fill, spark plugs, and differential oil, etc. HOLY!! The trans fluid went up $4/qt in 2 years! $300 just in parts! Anyways, I'm well on my way and will take it to get serviced next week. I changed my mind and will take it to a garage that did my a/c and misc work on both my Dodges. ![Icon Rally](https://dodgeforum.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_rally.gif)
