Default Front Axle Half Shaft

When pulling the driver's side CV axle on an 02 SLT+ AWD 4.7L the Half Shaft came out with it! It is apparently rusted to the CV axle. Waiting for KROIL to do its job. Looking at the manual it says to place the tranny in neutral before removing. The tranny was in park when I pulled it out. Do I have a problem now other than getting it out of the CV axle? Do I need it put it in neutral at this point? The splines on the end going into the diff look fine. Please advise!

Except for the water pump and thermostat that needs to be done this weekend! As you can see from my vehicle list plus the two 94 Continentals that my wife has me work on, I am never set! LOL

The waterpump is fairly easy. The only annoying things are getting the fan off and getting the little bypass hose back on. Can't speak for the fords though.
