Changed the oil and oil filter. Went with Castrol GTX High-Mileage 10W30 Motor Oil, 5 qt, fram oil filter, and STP High Mileage Oil Treatment. It good for other 3,000 miles
Next is spark plugs, air filter, and wheel bearing for the passenger side front.

I got a cold air intake for mine, gave me about 3 more MPG, and it sounds really cool when you stomp on the gas. Good to see oil change. I think I said it before too, don't be afraid to change the oil a little more often. These engines have oil passages that are too small, and if you go too long without an oil change, gunk will begin to build up in them. Thankfully I haven't had a problem yet on mine, but it's a common problem with these. Inspect your front end parts. Ball Joints are a known problem on these as well. Oh, and if the rear wiper runs erratically, check the ground wires on the wiper motor. Had to redo the ground on mine. Keep an eye on your axles. Make sure it's not leaking, and that there is fluid in it. I just forked over 400 bucks to rebuild mine. (That was me doing all the work myself). But to be fair, it's the first major repair in 115,000 miles. Take a look at your U-joints every so often. I've had to replace the one in the very rear three times now. Luckilly it's pretty simple and cheap to replace them. Hope these hints help, just things I've run into.

2) where are you getting your information about these engines being picky about maintance? that is no more so the case than any other engine on the market, if you ignore maintance you will have problems if you keep up on it with ANY regularity you will not have problems
3) front end is a little weak on these trucks, specifically the ball joints the uppers are easy to check if they have been replaced or not, if they are bolted on they have been replaced already

1) Average of an additional 2 - 3 MPG is what I get with mine, And seems to be the going rate with other people that I know, who have them. Some of them advertise to be even more than that. But I question that.
2) If you'd like me to post links on the oil issue, I have several to share. Or, just google dodge 4.7 oil sludge issue. You will find a ton of information on the topic on google, its a well known problem on the 4.7 especially. Hense the reason, I was telling him to be sure to change his oil religiously on these.

How are you figuring that 2-3 mpg, the overhead computer or by doing the math? There is no way that a cold air intake, which probably isn't actually a cold air intake since it's still sucking air from inside the engine bay, gave you 2-3 mpg. I promise you I didn't get 2-3 mpg with my new intake, and it actually does get cold air from outside the engine bay.
As for the oil, the ONLY reason anyone would have oil sludge is if they're complete morons and never changed their oil. If you even occasionally change it you won't have any issues with sludge.
BTW, we're not trying to be dicks or anything, just trying to get the correct information to the misinformed.
