Default Trans toast?

took my wifes 2000 D 4wd with 4.7l on a bit of a road trip yesterday. About 3/4 of the way back went to pass a slower car and when i stepped on the gas the tranny went to downshift but didnt engage. The rpms when up like it dropped down a gear but the truck when nowhere. instantly started to slow down. Backed off and got back up to speed. Turned the od off and same thing. Stopped for dinner and checked the fluid level and its at the right level and not burned. After dinner got back in to finish the drive home and it shifted just fine without any issues. No codes thrown. Looked in the diagnostic thread and it could be anything from a plugged filter to a short in the wiring to a fried tranny. Anyone else have this and what was the fix. Really cant afford a new tranny right now

Does it idle right? Sounds like it was almost starving for fuel.

I'd continue to monitor it, since it drove fine after your dinner. Maybe it was a one time hiccup.
