Default 233 Transfer Case Removal

I have a 2003 Durango 4.7L 4x4. It has a 233 transfer case that is cracked. I'm trying to remove it. I have removed the driveshafts, cross member, and all bolts (I think). I have 2 questions:

1. Are different versions of the 233? I see several on ebay that have 6 studs and nuts that connect it to the transmission. Mine has about 12 bolts that connect it to the tranny. What do I have? Also, I see NP233 and NV233 TCs on ebay. Is that the difference?

2. With all the bolts out, the transfer case doesn't want to separate from the tranny. I don't want to get too rough and break something. I assume the old gasket is holding it together. Am I still missing something holding it together?

Thanks for any help!
Danny

The 4.7 and the electronically shifted cases are a mystery to me, but the fsms in the diy section should have the information you're looking for as well as diagrams of everything.

Thanks, I tried to post over there but I got a message that said that I didn't have sufficient privileges. I assume it is because I haven't posted enough.

Maybe someone will see it here and help.

Do you know which transfer case you have? NP233 or NV233. If you don't know, send me a pm with the last 9 of the vin. And i'll be able to help you with information.

The diy section is locked, it's just supposed to be links to other threads. You just have to go to the diy section and click on the fsm link. Here's the link.

OK, so I'm an idiot! I really do have a 233 transfer case with the 6 studs. I swear that I looked all over and could not find the studs and tried to removed the back of the tranny. Luckily it didn't come apart after I removed the bolts. It just leaked fluid. I finally found the studs and removed the nuts and have the transfer case out. My new question is what is the difference between the NP233 and the NV233 cases. Mine has NVF Part # 45658 on the bar code tag and 233 D, ratio 272 on the round red tag. I assume it is a NV233. I have a used NV233 case on order, but want to make sure I get the correct one.

P.S. There is 1 nut top center and 1 nut passenger side top that are hell to get to and get loose!

Thanks,
Danny
