Program CTM for 01 Durango
Howdee all.
A while back I'd posted about a BCM for my durango-- location, why my security system was freaking out, etc.....
I'd learned through all that I needed a new/replacement CTM, and this morning I found, and bought one at my local auto-wrecking yard. As it was a Pick-n-Save, I saved quite a bit of $$, and am now seeking to save even more by seeing what it would take to program this thing that it's tuned to my vehicle.
I've installed it, and everything it's tied to appears to be working (door locks, lighting, have no idea about the security system itself yet)-- except my remote fob. I think they're called- REK.
As the REK is tired to the security system, I'm curious-- is this a dealer only program situation, or can I do it myself, or does it hasve to be someone with the programming tool?
TYIA.

I did call the dealer. They said that the 2001's are "flash-burned" with the vehicle's VIN, making it non-programmable with another RKE fob.
There's an outfit (who repairs these with a lifetime warranty) back in Jacksonville Fl, called- Automotive Electronic Solutions-- which says the 2001 is not flash-burned, and should be programmable. They said the real issue is more that a dealer just doesn't want to do so, because it's not cost-effective for their bottom line.
Your comment however raises another idea which I tried checking on.....
It dawned on me that all I'd need to do is to buy the old vehicle's RKE-fob when I get the CTM module.
So, I called the junk yard I bought it from (for the vehicle I pulled it from, the keys were not there.), and I called another yard who also has a couple of 2001 Durango's.
It turns out that if the keys exist, and if the FOB exists-- they will be in the for the ignition.
So.... I guess I'll need to be looking for the fob if I go get another unit.
For now, I get everything EXCEPT the alarming and RKE locking/unlocking elements.

You should be able to find a FOB from a 2001 and have it programed to the CTM.
When i got my truck it came with no FOB's and i got 4 of them in the junk yard. I then found a local locksmith that was able to program one of them for me and only charged me around $20. After i had the first one programed i was able to program 2 additional ones myself.
