Default p0500 error, no speed and ABS light stays on: speed sensor issue?

Greetings! Virgin Newbie here. I'm having a heck of a time. My 99 Durango (v8, 4wd with ABS) is giving me a P0500 code (Speed sensor malfunction), as well as the ABS light is staying on. I replaced the speed sensor (located at the transmission) and it still didn't correct the problem. Any ideas? Also, I replaced brakes about 3 months before this and the ABS light has stayed on since then. How can I make them go off?
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated - the Haynes manual is a waste of money when it comes to the 99 and these issues. I honor your Durango Kung Fu, for I am but a grasshopper. Thanks

You need to replace the other sensor that is located at the rear axle to address your abs, no speedo, etc problems.

Had the same problem. Got p/n 05014787AA (rear wheel speed sensor) from the dealer and it fixed the problem. $35.50 plus tax.
