Question 56040102AD PCM Question

With all the talk of hot PCM's and mine has been doing for almost a year now. I decided to go and get a new pcm. Does not help though that mine also does not advance ignition timing like it is supposed to when I shift out of park.

My question, I have a non security truck and I went to install a 56040102AE PCM due to everything I read indicates that they are the same (even though mine is a 56040102AD unit, the company sold me the PCM said that it is a non security PCM, just like my current unit, yet my 1st Gen will not start with the new PCM in. I unhook the battery, install the unit, reconnect the battery and to no avail, all it does is turn over and no start.
Am I missing something?

I spent a ton of money to try and get this right, and since I am dropping a new 5.2 into the truck in two months, I want to make sure that the computer wont kill the new one like it has done to the one in there now. Damn electronic timing.

Just out of curiosity if any one has had this same problem when getting a new PCM. What was there fix?

Thanks ahead of time.

The 1999 has it's own year of PCM's different from the 1998 and 2000-2003's. Ensure you bought a 1999 model for a 5.2L and make sure vin and mileage is recorded including any other feature.

It really doesn't matter the number, it matters the programing. The security is in the CTM, not the PCM, well lets put it this way, I've never heard of anything being in the PCM.

Anyway, you need to send it back to have it reprogrammed or exchanged. Yes, many people have to send them back sometimes a few times. Good luck!
