Smile charging guage peaks but my DMM show 13VDC

I have a diagnostic problem. My charging gauge will occasionally peak on H. I have a DMM connected to my battery right now and it shows when I start my car, the battery voltage at 13.01 vdc. Normal conditions it will show output about 13.5vdc.

I thought the charging gauge would reflect 15volts or higher when it jumps to the right. I see the actual battery voltage drop and the gauge will display the opposite.

Normal charging voltage is around 13.8 to 13.92 when on roads and highways. Sometimes I have to pull off and shut off and restart up engine then be on my way again. Does sound like a defective battery? It is about 2 yrs old and is used here in AZ.

I have replaced the BTS couple times when this charging problem comes back and each time the charging system will work fine for few weeks. I am going to have the alternator checked out this afternoon. Since the battery has a low voltage situation and the charging gauge will peak out during this time, can I figure the PCM, BTS and alternator (after testing) are doing their job?

I have schedule a business trip from PHX to Flagstaff and North Eastern AZ next week and there are lot of empty miles along I-40. Any suggestions would be a great help .
