Default Crankshaft Tone whl, Which one?

I have come to this Forum before for good advice, so I am back.

2002 4.7 Durango.

Over two year ago, my oil pressure went to zero. Finally figured out that the oil pickup tube in the pan was mostly clogged. I bought the aftermarket tube with the redesigned inlet, and all was well with the oil pressure. My engine though, developed a slight knock after it ran hot for that short time without oil. Well, I have driven it over 70,000 more miles with that knock but it finally let loose yesterday.

Looking up reman engines, the web sites are asking me a question. Crank sensor tone whl? What size? 16 T or 32 T?

Is there an easy way to figure out what size tone whl I have in my Durango?

I have been given the advice that, if I am going to replace the engine, I may as well do the same with the transmission. They both have 200,000 miles on the so don't do one without the other. This sounds like good advise and would like the forums thoughts on this.

What about finding an engine/transmission combo from a donor vehicle? how would I know which Tone ring in a used engine? If I swap engine and transmission at the same time, does the Tone whl matter?

All thoughts welcome.

David

If you pm user "MasterTech" with your vin he should be able to tell you which you need for sure (he's a Chrysler technician.) I think there's also some way to tell based on how many plugs your PCM has, but I can't remember off the top of my head.

So that picture is of four modules? So that engine is a 32 tooth model? And a 16 tooth will have three of those connectors?

Just wanting to be clear.

Thanks

Default Three

Okay. My Durango has three plugs. Safe then to say this is a 16 tooth application.

So now the search is on.

Thank you for the input guys.

Sincerely
David
