I usually only drive between home and campus on the weekends (35 mi round trip, half highway, half local) and then occasional small trips ton the store, etc. I just walk everywhere on campus because parking is a bitch. I normally spend a lot less than that per month, but I've driven between Charlotte and Columbia (150-170 mile round trip) a couple times recently.

But you're right that gas alone on the Durango is a major chunk of money. I spend around $300 a month on gas, in a good month.
Not really.. that's actually fairly cheap for full coverage with $50 deductible across the board in a high crime rated, one of nations highest auto theft areas. That is with every option insurance offers. Now basic coverage (that it has now) is around $170 a year. .and with the drug war currently underway that's why insurance = $$$$ I think my last quote if I put it under my California address it was near the $130 a year mark.

Feels good doesn't it

I spend roughly $60 a month on fuel these past couple months (in the Fusion). I think the last time I filled the Durango up was 2 months ago. Maybe 3. it was shortly after my road trip to Trinidad

A few week's ago I filled up a friend's Civic with just $35 and for a second seriously thought something was wrong with it... On a good day a full tank for the Durango costs me $75. But try driving that Civic on mountain roads in winter... I cross the Continental Divide on I-70 or on two-lane mountain roads several times a month and, when it's snowy and freezing, I give thanks for my reliable Durango.

Default My thoughts exactly

The majority of replies to this thread were exactly what I expected. I too love my Durango so much I will do what I have to do to keep it on, and off, the road.
It has been paid off since 2002 so anything I invest in it, which hasn't been that major till now, is still worth it to me.
The latest update is my heads were trashed so they're going to require a rebuild. I'm still going for it.
More later.

We just put 2k into the trans on our newer Durango, right after the $2250 purchase price, didn't think twice about it. Plus we have a 2 year 24k warranty on the trans.... still way ahead of the curve on this one. Even the shop owner that rebuilt the trans offered to buy us out of it if we decided not to have the trans work. It's just that nice of a truck.
Looking forward to hearing how things go with yours.....
