Default 99 5.9 Overheating

Whats up guys haven't posted in a while since my D has been sitting a little lately after my 06 Charger RT purchase. Anyhow I took the D to work a few times with no issues that I noticed. Last time I took it it was payday and sitting in the bank drive thru for 5 minutes it started to overheat almost in the red. I got through the bank and after getting back out on road, 35 mph it cooled back down.

Checking things out the next day I let it warm up to see if it would overheat again. the radiator isn't getting hot and after the engine is heated up. I do have heat blowing from the heater though. mopar electric fan was installed by someone before I owned it but its not kicking on since the radiator isn't warming up.

where should I start

Sounds like your Efan isn't turning on. If the Efan doesn't turn on, the air doesn't move through the rad unless you are moving, hence the overheat while sitting still, and cool down once moving again. Since I don't think the Efan came in the 99's, and this sounds like a mod done by the PO, I have no idea how to help you. How did the fan turn on before? Is there a controller installed? A manual switch? Hard to tell

Edit: the Efan isn't controlled by the temp of the rad, it's controlled by the temp of the engine. If your engine is in fact overheating (confirm the coolant temp sensor is still good), then the fan should turn on

the aftermarket sensor uses the radiator temperature to turn the fan on and off, however if the radiator isnt getting hot it is either a blocked radiator or a sticky thermostat that isnt opening far enough or at all.

Yup, that probe probably isn't getting hot. Most of those probes that I've seen are actually pushed into the radiator, but who knows since it's an aftermarket setup. That's why when I did my electric fan swap I went with a sensor in the upper hose.

Ya, I can't say I've ever seen this setup before. I also don't see this being as effective as a engine based sensor.

But with that all being said, I'd go with what shrp said. Probably your best bet
