Default I'm buying a used engine

Okay guys, I'm biting the bullet and hoping to get lucky with a used engine. The price for a 4.7 reman or rebuilt is over $4500 as far as I can tell. I have found just one, a single example of a 16 tooth, non 4WD, non engine mount, 4.7 here in the San Antonio area. It is at Pick and Pull, and they want $1000 for it.

So here is the question: what prep do you do with the engine before installation? I know I had the clogged oil pick-up tube in my first engine, so I will drop the pan on both engines and swap out the tubes. What else would you do to prep the used engine?

Thanks in advance

David

If you have an oil cooler also replace that or buy a new one. and basically just make sure it looks the same.
