That sucks. When I got hit I had to end up filing through my insurance company to get it fixed because the lady's insurance (the perpetually **** usaa) wanted to try and total mine, and then my insurance just sued her and her insurance to get their money back.

I don't know if it still works that way. When I was dealing with all that kind of stuff last summer how it worked was, if they totaled it they technically have the title (even if for a second), so even if they take the money out of the check, the title still becomes a salvage one, which is why I ended up going through my insurance. I'm not really concerned with what my Durango is valued at for the reason that I don't intend on selling it, but I was concerned with the value if I'd ever get hit again, then it would take even less to total it, and I'd get next to nothing for it then.

No one owned it before you, so yes, you can be in this thread.

I've heard that elsewhere too. The only time I ever had a 'total' was when a tree fell on my '93 Jeep YJ (note: never attach a winch to a dead tree. I told them I was camping and the tree fell when the wind kicked up at night.)

It was an easy repair for me, so I told the adjuster at minute one of meeting that I was keeping it, fixing it, and would have it inspected by them and back on comprehensive insurance in a week or two.

They never mentioned 'title', just wrote a check for $3800, and I fixed it in two weeks for maybe $1000. That was 10 years ago in NY.
