Valve Lifter Making Noise on Startup
2003 Durango, 4.7L, 175K miles.
Recently a valve lifter has started making noise at startup and then goes away after 3-4 minutes. I suspect that a lifter is leaking down while not running and takes a few minutes to pump back up when started. Is there anything that can be done other than pulling the intake and valve cover and replacing the lifter? Any additives, heavier oil, etc?
I don't think this will cause any damage. Correct?
Thanks, Danny

Have you confirmed it is indeed the lifter?
It might not even be a lifter. It could be you have a leak in the exhaust manifold gasket or broken manifold bolt.
When the engine heats up, things expand and "fit better".
Thought I had it on mine, but turns out it was the broken manifold bolt.
I have the same motor with 169K. Had the bolts replaced at 160K maybe?
