Default Pointless chime?

1998 SLT, 5.2 with 81k miles. It has developed a pointless chime. When you start it up all the lights come on as they should letting you know the bulbs work. You put on your seat belt, check your mirrors, put it in reverse and as your are backing out of the driveway a chime starts going off. No warning lights or anything, just the chime. It dings 2-3 times and that's it. It doesn't happen again until the next time you repeat the whole process.

Are you sure all the lights are working?

I've checked the lights twice. The first time I experienced it, it was between 1/4 and 1/2 tank of fuel. It only happens after initial start up, it wont go off again until the next time you start it up.

Mine does the same thing for the last 10k since I got it. 190k to 200k. Sometimes it does it right away, sometimes not until you hit 15mph. Hasn't hurt anything yet. I have replaced the PCM, but no the body timer. I think it may be a sign of that failing.

Just sitting here thinking about it i remembered that the 98's (probably the others as well) have a 2-3 ding chime that goes off when the truck is in a gear and the driver door is open... i bet you have a door sensor in the drivers door going bad. just a thought.

Mine dings if any of the doors open in gear, but it's probably one of those year to year changes from 98 to 99.
