Just left tire shop after a diagnosis on a slow leak that would take me from 35 psi to 15 psi in a week: I have a small nail embedded in the outer edge of the tire, a good inch away from the sidewall.... the service guy said it was unrepairable because of its location and he recommended that I shell out $126 for a new tire.

Long story short, I had them put my old (well, they have less than 3,000 miles on them, so not precisely what I'd call old) tire back on and I took off....

Just got home and checked the air in all 4... One is at 30, 2 of them were 32 and the one they looked at was 45 psi.

What should it be? Finding alot of different opinions on google.

Headed to a more reputable shop on Monday....

 

44 should be the max psi for that tire although I would recommend running all the tires at 35. They probably set it at that so it wouldn't go flat as fast but it still isn't right so I would say air it down to 35.

 

What you need to do is put a line of chalk across the tires and find the pressure where it wears away evenly. If it's wearing more in the middle you need less pressure. If on the sides more pressure.

 

I have plugged a few tires that shops wanted to sell me a new tire. One nail was on the edge of the tread. It is a no brainer to plug tires!

 

Plugging is not good, it supposedly illegal in some places even now. You can mess up the belts worse amongst other things. Patching it from the inside is pretty much the only right way to fix a tire.
