Default 01 Durango stalling

I just got done starting my 01 Durango over with the 5.9 motor in her. There is no check engine light illuminating so im not quite sure whats going on here. I can start the motor fine while hitting the accelerator. however, when I let off the accelerator it stalls. But when I keep pressing on the accelerator it runs just fine. It acts as though there is no throttle stop on the old carbureted motors. Any thoughts on this, could it be my Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)?

It's most likely a dirty/bad IAC (on the back of the throttle body) or bad battery connections/weak battery.

I check all the sensors for voltage as per described in the manual and everything checked out ok, the IAC, TPS and the MAP sensors all checked out fine. I did notice that when I went out to start it that the battery was pretty much dead. The thing is even after I jumped it and got it up to temperature, every time I would let off of the accelerator the thing would want to die. Is there a way to adjust the idle at all?

Put away your meters. Take off the whole throttle body and clean it, and remove the IAC from the TB and clean that too.

Agreed with cleaning the throttle body. If you're having battery problems I'm almost certain that's your issue. If the computer isn't getting the proper voltage it can't function properly, and one of those functions is maintaining idle (no adjustment). If the battery won't hold a charge it should be replaced. I'd clean the battery connections with a wire brush first though and also check that the alternator is functioning properly too.

Ok, I just got done taking the TB off and cleaning it good along with the IAC valve, put everything back together and it still does it. I guess tomorrow Ill check my battery to see if it is fully charged, its turning over fine now though.

remove your battery and take it to autozone or advanced auto to have it tested also as stated be sure that all terminals are fresh and cleaned. then see what she does if you have her with a fresh battery.

Oh I forgot to add, the past year or so I noticed that sometimes when I put her into Neutral or Park that the Idle seems kind of high, around 1000 RPM's. Id have to give the pedal a tap to bring it back to where its supposed to be. At that point I was thinking that my TPS was going bad, but let me take my battery to Auto zone today to have it checked first. Ill let you all know what I find out when I find out.
Thanks again

WOW, I cant believe I overlooked this. When I was taking the battery out to take up to Auto Zone, I decided that I would clean the terminals with my wire brush, the connections looked pretty clean, no rust or corrosion or anything like that. I cleaned them real quick, put them back on the battery, fired her up, gave her throttle and whalla....All good to go, no more stalling or low RPM'S......
Thanks for the advice
Gary

.. and a byproduct is you now also know your TB is all clean, which is cheap to do and never hurts.
