Default Engine Restore - Love it or hate it?

Learned my lesson about adtitives before with the Lucas Transmission debacle in the spring. Now I ask the think tank prior to taking any mechanic advice.

220K miles looking to spruce up performance after a recent wires, sparks and button change.

Anyone have success with engine restore?

your owners manual specifically says not to put any additives in the oil, the engineers that made your truck have a good reason for that (THEY DONT WORK!!!!!)

MMO is just a cleaner, it works to make lifter noise go by cleaning the varnish and deposits off them making them work like they should. I dont use it since its expensive, I use Berrymans carb cleaner, dump a can in the engine oil right before I change the oil. Let it idle for a while in a hot engine. Cleans everything inside, even the PCV valve since the fumes run through it. The old engine flush in a can was/is deisal fuel or kerosene, which works but more drastically. If I use any additives its STP, its cheap and works to extend an oil change if you cant get to it when its time. It also has the ZDDP additive for extra metal to metal contact wear. Not really needed for a 4.7 but the pushrod engines can benefit from it. Its as good as the expensive crap like Lucas(its good but hi cost) but only costs a few bucks.

I use STP too. The oil analysis report speaks for itself here:

What happened with the Lucas? I've seen that stuff save a car or two from the scrapyard as well as pass off a bad motor as being good.

I used the restore a few times years ago when I was a kid, never really noticed any difference.
