Default Need help!!!

This is for my mother, she has a 2000 Durango R/T, about 137,000 miles.. 1st- the shifter on the floor for 4wd hi, lo is stuck in 4hi she thinks, at the same time that happened she lost reverse too, every other gear is fine, and she claims when it's in reverse, the steering wheel moves but the tires don't... Never heard of that, don't know if she getting old or what... Any ideas??

Nah, I'm in Minnesota, she's in Pa... Yeah, I don't know about the whole steering thing, but she def. has no reverse, even when they tried to push it in Nuetral, truck won't budge... Mechanic today said her tranny is shot... She needs a new or rebuilt one.... How can that be if all the gears work except reverse

What were the events leading up to this? Maybe she got stuck and burned the transmission up trying to get un stuck?

its a common failure mode to lose reverse and have everything else work and the trans needing a rebild (or replacement)

If the drivetrain is bound up it might not want to shift out of 4hi until it can roll some in neutral. 4hi is only suitable for use on slippery surfaces (off road). Being that R/Ts have the full time transfer case it should be in the AWD or 4WD position for normal use.
