I'm pretty sure my 30 yo floor jack is toast. It is a 2 1/4 ton Craftsman that won't hold pressure any more. Unless someone here is well versed in rebuilding them, I' m going to need to replace it. What do you guys like and what should I stay away from?

Me and my grandpap have had hydraulic shops rebuild the cylinders in the pumps before. It might be worth looking into what it would cost to have it rebuilt locally, because they just don't build stuff like they used to.

I got an aluminum rapid-pump (10 yrs ago?), mine happens to be Craftsman, there are others. I really like the light weight. My old steel slow-pump is still in service (30+ yrs old?). It's great having two, use both on maybe every 5th project.

I have an aluminum 3.5 ton Craftsman as well. It was about $250 when I bought it, a bit more than I wanted to spend but better than any of the older heavy cheapos Ive used over the years. If you think you might ever have to lift your jack into a trunk or back of a truck you will want aluminum, they are still heavy but not as heavy as steel.

Get an aluminum for the road and rebuild the good one.
