Default 03 4.7l Durango Issue

My daughter's 03 4.7l Durango just started have an issue. I haven't had a chance to look at it yet.

The problem is that as she is driving it, it will nearly die and then comes back. The tack will show 0 RMPs and the PS goes out when it nearly dies.

Has anyone seen anything like this before? And where should I start looking?

Thanks!

Maintenance history? Tach reading zero and losing PS is normal when the engine dies. More info would be helpful. As she is stopped, whiule driving along at 60 MPH, accelerating? Decelerating? In gear? Could be any number of things. Without more info, it's a shot in the dark. Is the check engine light on? Sure, maybe check the TPS, and IAC, but without knowing the current state of tune, it could be as simple as a dirty air filter.

It has been maintained normally since we have had it the last 5 years. Once when she stopped it died and then started right back up. It has also done it while she was driving along in city traffic, probably max 45-50 MPH. She didn't say if she was accelerating or decelerating. Check engine light has been on for evap system, but I haven't had a chance to check it to see if there are others. Air filter is a good shot to check. it has been driven on dirt road a lot and I'm not sure when it was changed last.

Sounds like an IAC or battery issue to me.
