Default diagnostic codes

hey all, need some help! my 2001 Durango failed for emmissions at dmv, check engine light is on so took it to autozone and 2 codes showed up, po442 and po455. they said fuel cap, bought one, light still on, evap.solinoid next, light still on, some smaller vac lines next, light still on. next says vac leak at engine, not sure besides visually inspect. any tricks? I have vac gauge but don't no if I can troubleshoot with it? engine seems to run perfect. 2001 Durango 4x4 5.9 auto, last week engine light was on so I unhook battery to reset light, dmv said failed because they weren't getting info from computer. drove couple days till light came on and went to autozone, here I am, 4 things they said it could be, ps if it was evap solenoid, cap etc does it take time for light to go out? thanx in advance, pine

all emissions code take time to clear on their own, or to show up, it can be anywhere from 50-500 miles, unless you clear the code manually, then its gone unless the fault is detected again.

i spent years chasing the 044x codes on my truck (all of the ones i got were evap leaks), i never did figure it out, they would just go away on their own after a couple weeks every spring and fall, it never hurt the way the truck ran so i didnt worry too much about it.

the most common method of trouble shooting evap leaks is to smoke test the system and look for where the smoke is coming out, that will be your leaking component.

takes a certain number of cold start cycles to retest everything needed int he computer, usually within 500 miles you are good to go, but it could be as quick as 50 miles
