2002 Durango r/t brake light don't work need help
Hi everyone
I have a 2002 Durango r/t. The brake lights are not working. I changed the bulbs, checked the socks by switching the socks around from with in the light assembly. I check fuses. I checked the connection on the socks and light housing. And I changed and check the power to the brake light switch. All seem good and working.
But I still have no brake lights
Any help to solve this problem would help. I don't want to be a hazard on the road.
Also my turn signals are blinking fast. And I changed all the bulbs.
Help please

Trying to understand your "troubleshooting" procedure.
So are you saying you have power to the brake light area of the taillight assembly but it does not illuminate? And you put a working turn signal in that spot and still no brake light?
How exactly did you prove your sockets and housings are functioning? If your sockets are all good, and your housings are good, then you should have brake lights.
Also, did you check the fuse under the hood.
Have you traced the wires to see if you have a break somewhere?

I have taken out the reverse light socked and switched it with the one in the brake light. And it worked in the reverse light. I put the reverse light socked in the brake lights hole and nothing. I cleaned off the connection in the brake light hole and nothing. I have power to my brake light switch witch I replaced and nothing. I check the fuses under the hood and nothing. Check the fuses in the truck and nothing. So I don't understand why I have no brake lights. Any suggestions ?
Here is a pinout of the Tail Light Assy....you can work backwards to determine the mating pin/slot (#5) on the "plug".
LEFT TAIL LAMP ASSEMBLY - BLACK 6 WAY
CAV CIRCUIT FUNCTION
1 L61 16LG LEFT TURN SIGNAL
2 L60 16TN RIGHT TURN SIGNAL
3 L1 18VT/BK BACK-UP LAMP FEED
4 L7 20BK/YL PARK LAMP RELAY OUTPUT
5 L50 16WT/TN BRAKE LAMP SWITCH OUTPUT
6 Z1 18BK GROUND
If you have power at the brake light switch, but no power at the tailight, then you may have a bad wire along the way.
If you have power at the brake light switch and power at the "plug" then you may have a bad circuit in the Tail Light Assy. If this is the case, there were LOTS of Gen I (98-03) Durangos and Gen III Dodge/Chrysler/Plymouth Minivans (96-2000) so a replacement part should be easy to find.
