Front end clunking
Hey what's up everybody, this is my first post so I apologize if this isn't in the right spot. Ok so u got a 2000 durango rt 5.9 awd all the time. I've been hearing a faint clunking for a few weeks now, thought it was the starter I bad but I got under the truck last night for thorough listening and the clunking cones from the front diff. At least there's where's its the loudest. Now when u start the truck I barely hear anything, shift into drive nothing, drive a little bit come to a stop faint clunking, when I arrive somewhere and put it in park its a very loud clunking , almost like a baby with a wooden spoon smacking a cooking pot...very annoying. That's all I got I think on that issue if anybody's got an idea of what it could be, I'd really appreciate some help, I've got more time than money these days so I'm trying to fix this myself. Again thanks in advance for all the help
Let it cool off enough that you can crawl under there and start pulling on stuff. Try banging the exhaust around put a pry bar on suspension components and see if there's any play. Check motor mounts trans cross member etc. That might help you narrow it down a bit. I know the front diff acts as the engine cradle so the mounts might be your issue if I'm correct.
