Default Question about amount of atf+4 needed.

I have a 99 Durango 5.2 slt 4x4. I think the trans is a 44re. I just changed the filter and control solenoid and pressure sensor. I have a problem with the dipstick in this transmission. It doesn't have any markings on it to show where full hot/cold is. I believe it is from a different vehicle, cause it is broken at the end. How many quarts of fluid does it normally take to fill these after a filter change? I drained 2 gallons out before i changed the filter and sensors. I have a feeling it was overfilled before. Was also wondering if anyone out there who has the same dipstick as I should have could measure theirs from bottom of handle to the full hot mark, so I could notch mine to know where full is? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I think I used about 6.5 quarts from my 44re filter change.

Thanks for the reply, I'm thinking i definitely had too much fluid in it prior to the filter change. hopefully Its not toast. Any way you could measure your dipstick from the bottom of the handles dust-cap to the full hot mark for me? I'm kinda stranded till I get this beast up and running again.

If the rain from this hurricane ever clears up tonight I'll try and get out to measure it

Overall length on mine looks to be about 35 1/4" and from the tip to the hole in the dipstick is about 1 1/2"

This is what my dipstick looks like: http://www.ebay.com/itm/98-00-Dodge-Durango-Transmission-Dipstick-5-2L-V8-AT-SUV-OEM-/171736357013?fits=Model%3ADurango&hash=item27fc48d895&vxp=mtr

I like the price of that one on ebay. $13.90 is alot cheaper than the new ones for $40. Was
that measurement from (below yellow handle) top of dust cap to end of dipstick? Measurement from where yellow handle meets dust cap to hole indicating full would be best so i can make a mark on mine to go by. mine is just under 35" overall length. Thanks for all your help.

That was from the tip of the dipstick to the top of the dust cap.
