Replacing Left Steering Spindle/Knuckle 1998
The caliper bolt was stripped on my left caliper and was discovered by Firestone after I took it in to have the brakes looked at. They said they could put in a helicoil. Well they messed that up and finally ending up putting in an over-sized pin. That was 6 months ago. It's been acting up by locking up hard and then when you let up on the brake and re-brake, there's little or no stopping power. I've almost rear-ended someone due to this. So today, I took it to a different Firestone dealer that is closer to me and they told me the pin did not work and that I need to replace the knuckle. That's the only way to fix it right. Tomorrow I'm taking it to the Firestone dealer who did the work and see if they'll fix it on their dime. If not, I need to find another knuckle. My local yard has a 2000 Durango but I'm thinking that's tool late a year. Even so, if I can't get them to fix and I have to find another knuckle myself at another wrecking yard, how hard is it to remove the knuckle? What tools are needed? I just want to be prepared for the worst. I need to get this up and running safe again, and being disabled and a student, money is not easy to come by.
Thanks folks!
Thanks folks!
Can't help with the knuckle exactly, but... Whenever I need instant gratification on figuring out what part goes with what years, I go to Auto Parts stores web sites, pretend to be the different years of a vehicles, and look up the part to see if it's the same one or not.
i cant access the site at work, but i have all the part manuals for a LOT of the different years at the following link, if you go there and download the PDFs you can figure out if they match up.
