Intermittent Starting
Hey everyone, long time forum reader, this is my first post and I'm looking for some help.
99 Dodge Durango 5.9 The problem is that when you start the vehicle the starter will begin to crank, then stop, then crank some more and so on. If the engine is cold it will start fine. If the engine is warm it usually wont start but has. The check engine light is on, code P1899 NSS performance low/rationality old. Jumping has no effect.
Here's all the work I have done: new starter, new wire from the battery to the starter, new ground wire for battery and all grounds cleaned, new NSS and wire from the switch to the fuse box, rebuilt and updated PCM, cleaned contacts on all fuses and relays
The crankshaft turns smoothly with the spark plugs removed and i have bypassed most wiring problems by supplying power directly to the starter solenoid wire to start the vehicle and it did start when hot but still cranked intermittently. The starter in the vehicle was just replaced a second time, the extra strain on the first starter must have killed it after about 3 months and I do not want to replace it a third time
I couldn't find any threads about this problem and I welcome any thoughts on the matter, thank you.

When you say start do you mean it would actually start and run? Or just turn over the motor? Ive had been given bad new electrical parts before (another NSS). But if you mean it turns over without (popping off) running I'd be looking closely at that crank position sensor located in the transmission bell-housing. Then again I'm probably not looking at your symptoms correctly
