98 durango hard to start
Recently my durango has been giving me problems starting...first i thought it was battery, so i replaced that with no luck, i would turn the key and just get a click...then i cleaned the terminal connectors and bam my durango started like a champ for about 2 weeks...now the firat time i start my truck every day it takes some maneuvering...i have to jiggle the gear shifter then try to start...get a click...do it a few more times finally it will try to turn over and after a few more times jiggling the shifter it starts...the reat of the day it starts just fine....does it have something to do with the cold? Also dometimes when i turn the key partially i hear a humming from underneath the middle of the truck outside...HELP!!!
I was leaning towards neutral safety switch when I wrote this as well, and sure enough the next morning it didnt start in park but it did in neutral. Today it started like a champ in park but it wasnt as cold last night (no frost on windows this morning)...does the weather affect the neutral safety switch?
Moisture on the contacts maybe... either way it definitely sounds like the issue. It's cheap to replace, just have the new switch ready to go right in in your other hand as you take out the old one, because fluid will come out of the hole. Make sure you have some more to put it.
